Sulphur Springs trail run is selling out

Have you wanted to get started in the trail running scene? Sulphur Springs trail races may be the perfect place to get started, if you get signed up in time.

The May 24, 2014, event will mark the 22nd running of the Sulphur Springs Trail Run, one off Ontario’s more popular trail races. Registration opened at the beginning of February for the event. It’s a perfect place to kick of a trail running career or sign up for a longer ultra. The event offers 10K, 25K, 50K, 50 mile and 100 mile races, as well as two relay events.

Each year the event is held in the Dundas Valley Conservation Area, one of southern Ontario’s most extensive trail systems, just outside Hamilton, Ont. The event raises money for the Hamilton Conservation Foundation, the group that maintains the park, so money raised goes back to keeping the trails and park in good condition for future races. The Sulphur Springs races have raised $55,000 for the foundation and in 2013 alone raised $10,000. This year they hope to contribute even more.

Registration is discounted until May 1 and ranges from $40 up to $185 for individual races and jumps to more expensive rates after that, if there are still spots to fill. The 50K and 50 mile events are already over 80 per cent sold.

Last year all 1,200 race bibs sold out and in 2014 only 40 more bibs were added, all to the 25K and 50K races.
