Take the Bridge is an unsanctioned race series that started in 2015 in New York City. It consists of short night races over city bridges. The race has been hosted in various American cities and is coming to Toronto tonight.

The race kicks off at Canoe Landing Park and is roughly 5K long. Men’s and women’s heats will be run separately and there’s prize money for the top three in both categories. First place wins $250, second place $125 and third place $65. The event starts at 8 p.m.

Unsanctioned racing is gaining popularity in Canada, with many runners seeing it as a fun and easy alternative to big road races. Parkdale Roadrunners wrote in Take the Bridge Journal about unsanctioned racing, “It’s still relatively new to the city with more races popping up every year. The Black Lungs hold their annual Ekiden race on the longest day of the year. Unsanctioned races really bring out a great mix of really fast runners as well as local crews and clubs ready to experience something new.”
