The 2023 Boston Marathon: how to qualify and register

Qualifying standards for next year's Boston Marathon are unchanged from recent years

The B.A.A. announced Wednesday all the details for qualifying and registering for the 2023 Boston Marathon. The 2023 race will take place on Monday, April 17, and registration will take place between Sept. 12 and Sept. 16, 2022. Applicants must run a qualifying race between Sept. 1, 2021 and Sept. 16, 2022.

The only thing that remains to be seen is whether there will be a qualifying cutoff (i.e. whether registrants will actually have to run faster than their qualifying times to make it into the race, and if so, what it will be. In 2022, due to factors arising from the pandemic, there was no cutoff time; all applicants with a qualifying time were accepted. The field size for 2023 will be 30,000, as it was in 2022.
