Three reasons why you should livestream the Oslo Diamond League meet

Here's a hint: Melissa Bishop, Andre De Grasse and it's free to watch online for Canadians right here

The livestream, which can be watched above (via the CBC), begins at 2 p.m. EDT

The fifth meet on the Diamond League’s global circuit takes place Thursday in Oslo.

Canadian track fans are in for a treat, as two of the country’s top runners are in Norway and should be in the mix.

The men’s 100m

3:03 pm EDT

Andre De Grasse will race the 100m and is the favourite, after winning last week in Rome. De Grasse was also the victor last year in Rome. He’ll have some stiff competition, with the race featuring seven others with sub-10-second PBs. Canadian Aaron Brown will also be in the race. De Grasse will be looking to heat up going into the IAAF World Championships in August, so keep an eye on whether or not he can dip below the 10 second mark. His PB is 9.91.

The women’s 800m

3:10 p.m. EDT

Canada’s Melissa Bishop is in tough in Oslo. She’ll be lining up against the three women who finished ahead of her in Rio: Caster Semenya, Francine Niyonsaba and Margaret Wambui. Bishop controversially ended up fourth behind the trio at the Olympics last year.

Bishop started her season well, and has already run under 2:00, the marker of world class 800m running for women. If she can finish ahead of any of the three that beat her in Rio, it will be a significant boost for her confidence.

Bishop’s PB came in the the Rio Olympic final, running 1:57.02. That’s a Canadian record. But Semenya demolished her and the field in 1:55.28. She’s already run 1:56 this year.

The women’s 800m field is stacked. It also features Eunice Sum of Kenya (1:56.99) and Britain’s Lynsey Sharp (1:57.69). Both were also in the final in Rio.

Canadian Derek Drouin, who won gold in Rio in the high jump, will also be in Oslo, along with teammate Michael Mason, and both should contend for the win.
