Tough day in Tokyo for Lakatos, plus Canadian age group results

Like many, Lakatos struggled to maintain his body temperature in the chilly, wet conditions. 230 Canadian runners finished

Tokyo Marathon

Like many runners at Sunday’s Tokyo Marathon, Canadian wheelchair athlete Brent Lakatos struggled to stay warm enough to maintain his speed, and finished a disappointing 12th, well behind Canadians Josh Cassidy (who finished fifth, in 1:36:21) and Alexandre Dupont (11th place, 1:43:20). The division was won by Switzerland’s Marcel Hug in 1:30:43, with Daniel Romanchuk of the US in second place (1:34:25) and South Africa’s Ernst Francois Van Dyk in third (1:34:40).

In a tweet, Lakatos said, “This marathon was the hardest race I have ever done. I was too cold from the start to keep up, and it only got worse from there. Sorry for the poor showing. I will take away from this lots of tough lessons.”

In the women’s wheelchair division, Manuela Schar of Switzerland was first across the line in 1:46:56, with Tatyana McFadden of the US in second (1:48:52) and Susannah Scaroni, also of the US, in third (1:54:29).
