Remember summer camp? For weeks you couldn’t wait to get away to be outdoors and have days jam-packed with activity. Luckily, you can still go to camp as an adult. Running camps can last anywhere from a weekend to a couple of weeks. They’re aren’t just for intense athletes either. Runners of all abilities can find the one right for their fitness level. Need inspiration? We’ve checked out a few for you.

Drakensberg Camp, South Africa

When: March 26 – 29

For four days, runners get to focus on trailrunning. This camp is relatively small capping the number of athletes at 12. Days are structured so that runners hit the trails in the mornings running between 20 and 40K.  Runners will be coached and educated on trail tips, technique, nutrition and fueling. During the evenings, they participate in stretching, yoga or strengthening exercises. For more information, visit their site. 

The Canadian Death Race Training Camp, Grand Cache, AB

When: June 5 -7; July 3- 5

During three-day adventures in the Rockies, runners will participate in two sessions per day and get to see the 125K Death Trail. This is for runners planning to run more than one stretch of the Canadian Death Race. Those participating should be in good fitness condition and bring their own gear plus hiking poles and a mountain bike in case they need to give legs a break.

Rossland Mountain Running Camp, West Kootenay, B.C.

When: July 2- 5

Ideal for the fit foodie runner. One the first day, runners get treated to a wine and cheese. Over three days at Rossland Mountain Camp, runners will see most of the Broken Goat 50K trail in this region that’s home to the Seven Summit Trail. Those participating, learn how to properly ascend and descend without injury and learn technique through video analysis. This is for the mountain runner.

The Kenya Experience, Iten, Kenya

When: March 4 – 17; June 12- 25

Someone who wants to get experience altitude training would appreciate this camp. It can cater to all abilities though, so even runners who haven’t been doing the sport forever can sign up. During this camp, runners will train at 2,400m altitude at Lornah Kiplagat’s High Altitude Training Centre. Runners can expect coached workouts, guided runs and workshops with Kenyan stars.
