After 10 years of races, Vancouver’s famous SeaWheeze Half Marathon and 10K has run its final course. On Thursday, June 2, the race, which was sponsored by Lululemon, announced on social media that the SeaWheeze race weekend will no longer exist.

SeaWheeze was set to celebrate its 11th year in 2022, attracting 10,000 runners from across Canada and around the world. The event itself was about more than the half marathon, SeaWheeze gave runners a taste of the Vancouver lifestyle, from the breathtaking course (more than half of it alongside the Pacific Ocean) to the lululemon-clad pacers and spin cyclists to the post-race party, yoga and Sunset Festival in Stanley Park.

In the last two years, the race has gone virtual due to the pandemic. The race’s sponsor, Lululemon, dropped limited-edition collections that represented the Vancouver running community. Lululemon sponsored pop-up yoga classes, stores and other activities during its annual race weekend in August. “Running is about connection, and our objective is to give our runners the opportunity to yoga, run, and party with their own run communities,” says a spokesperson from lululemon.

“If there’s one thing we know when the sun sets on a finish line, it rises to a new start line,” says SeaWheeze via Twitter. Lululemon seems to be taking a step away from sponsoring mass-running events, as they have also pulled out of being the title sponsor at this year’s Edmonton 10K and Toronto Waterfront 10K.
