Weekend running highlighted by flashy destination events
Two festive events led the destination race news over the weekend, showcasing some flashy sides of the United States.
In Las Vegas, Nev., the Rock ‘n’ Roll Series hosted one of their highlight events through the iconic American city. The Las Vegas marathon is one of only two reasons the famous strip is closed to vehicles each year, the other being New Year’s Eve.

Popular hip-hop duo Macklemore and Ryan Lewis performed before the event, covering for Snoop Dogg, who was originally scheduled for the event. The women’s race was won by a Canadian, Cathy Cullen, a runner and mother from Winnipeg. She finished in 2:56. Cullen is a mother of two, her youngest being only 11 months old.

He took the top spot over the weekend, extending his marathon win streak. Bruce has won five Rock ‘n’ Roll marathons in a row. He finished the Las Vegas course in 2:27:22, jogging in the final few kilometres.
