This year’s Canadian 5K Championships elite list has been released… and it’s going to be a heck of a race to watch

The Canadian 5K Championships are less than two weeks out. Here's who to watch for:

The Canadian 5K Championships are less than two weeks away. On Sept. 10, the streets of Toronto will play host for the showdown between some of the fastest 5K runners in the country. With the IAAF World Championships having just come to a finish not too long ago, running fans have definitely witnessed some fantastic racing as of recent.

Now, the focus for many will be the upcoming 5K championship race. And there’s some cash on the line too of course. The first male and female runners across the line will be taking $2,500 to the bank. The Bang & Olufsen YorkvilleRun is the race where our fastest 5K talent will go head to head.

Today, Athletics Canada announced the elite fields. See below for a complete list of runners, seed times and prizes.

Of course, there are some key runners to keep an eye on. In the women’s field, Andrea Seccafien and Jessica O’Connell have just come off their World Championships races. Seccafien holds the fastest time of the group (15:08) with O’Connell and Sasha Gollish not far behind. They’re seeded at 5:14 and 5:24 respectively.

On the men’s side, the most exciting athlete to keep track of is going to be Cam Levins, not only because he’s gone faster than his competitors but because the distance runner is in the midst of making a comeback soon after leaving the Nike Oregon Project in June. As he works to bring his fitness level back up, he has sometimes even been running three times a day.

See below for a full list of athletes to watch.
