Treadmill running classes catching on

Treadmill running classes catching on.Just as spinning, body-pump and yoga classes continue to fill up at gyms and studios around the country, a new type of group fitness trend has been taking off in recent years: treadmill running.

Treadmill running classes, in which instructors lead participants together through coordinated workouts on the oft-hated running machines, are not entirely new. But now, entire facilities, studios and gyms that specialize in such classes are beginning to take hold in major cities across Canada

Attracting complete beginners to experienced veterans, treadmill classes provide a high-energy atmosphere, experienced instruction and the motivation that comes from working out alongside others. Many combine time on the treadmill with body-weight exercises, stretching and strength training to provide a complete workout.

Can’t wait for a treadmill class to come to you? Get a group of friends together and do one yourself!

Treadmill TrainingRunning solo on the treadmill can feel like forever but recruiting a friend or two and completing a shared workout or run can be motivating and fun. To do so, you’ll need to find a place and time to run together: most likely a gym or fitness studio with a number of treadmills located close together. Once you’ve found a place and time to do it, decide on a fun way to make your run more enjoyable.

Take turns deciding what pace and incline to run for a set period of time. Mix it up every five minutes or so changing some aspect of the run. Add hills, speed intervals or tempo sections interspersed with slower, recovery ones. Also be sure to warm up and cool down before and after the run. Remember it’s not a race and you shouldn’t try to beat one another. Most importantly, have fun and enjoy your experience on the treadmill, for that is indeed a rare occurrence.
