NormaTec acquired by Hyperice

At race expos, you might have noticed people sitting with their legs stretched out, with big and puffy-looking boot-like things on their legs. It may look weird, but those hip-to-toe boots are a high-end recovery system produced the NormaTec company. Athletes all over the world use NormaTec products, and professional runners like U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials winner Galen Rupp and middle-distance superstar Colleen Quigley swear by them. It was announced this morning that another leading recovery and performance technology company, Hyperice, has acquired NormaTec. The two companies will fully combine their workforces and projects in this acquisition.

Hyperice produces a variety of recovery products, such as the Hypervolt, which is a cordless vibration massager that delivers up to 50 “shocks” per second to relieve muscle stiffness and soreness.  Like NormaTec’s recovery systems, the Hypervolt (along with other Hyperice products) is used by many elite athletes, such as Japanese tennis star Naomi Osaka.

The two companies have worked together closely since 2016 in both the sports performance and military markets, proving that they fit well with one another. This pre-existing corporate relationship helped to accelerate the acquisition. In the acquisition, CEO of NormaTec, Gilad Jacobs, will join the leadership team and board of directors at Hyperice as Chief Innovation Officer. 

“Combining our talents will help accelerate our ability to provide comprehensive recovery solutions,” said Jacobs. “This acquisition is an absolute game changer for the performance and wellness industry. ” Anthony Katz, founder of Hyperice, said that the two companies are a natural fit.

The new team at Hyperice will dive into research to study the combined effects of the two companies’ products, and how they can be used to help athletes, whether for warming up before a workout, recovering after exercise or general body maintenance.
