Two-time Olympian Phylicia George’s Instagram post goes viral

"Embrace your body type and always just try to be the best possible version of yourself," Phylicia George says, in part, in an Instagram post dated March 2.

Phylicia George

Phylicia George, a two-time Olympian for Canada, is off to a great start in 2017. She set personal bests in the 60m (7.27) and 60m hurdles (7.93), indoors, and won events at the Millrose Games and overseas on the European circuit.

Though she did not re-sign with Nike, George continues to perform well and is a good candidate to represent Canada at the 2017 IAAF World Championships. On March 2, George, 29, encouraged her Instagram followers to “embrace your body type and always just try to be the best possible version of yourself.”

The post, featuring a side-by-side comparison of her on the track in 2014 and in 2016, has since gone viral with more than 8,400 likes and more than 130 comments. In 2016, George finished eighth in the 100m hurdles at the Rio Olympics and finished seventh as part of Canada’s 4x100m relay team at the Games.

“I’m proud of who I’ve become because I had to work hard to become her. 2014 vs 2016. In 2014 I was fresh off an injury and about 10 lbs lighter. I’m the strongest and leanest I’ve ever been. I’ve never been one to focus on what the scale says, but rather I focus on what my body composition looks like, if I feel healthy, and if I’m functionally efficient and effective on the track. Embrace your body type and always just try to be the best possible version of yourself.”
