Run Ottawa offering an introduction to snowshoe running
Run Ottawa, in partnership with the City of Ottawa and Mad Trapper Racing, is offering four introduction lessons to snowshoe running.
Runners in the nation’s capital will have the opportunity to learn the ins and outs of snowshoe running with four introduction lessons in January and February.
Run Ottawa, in partnership with the City of Ottawa and Mad Trapper Racing, will host the event at the newly-renovated Lansdowne Park, located adjacent to the Rideau Canal in downtown Ottawa.

Mad Trapper Racing, an organization helping to put on the event, also offers a number of races throughout the winter months as part of its Atlas Mad Trapper Snowshoe Series, four snowshoe running races (the first of which was a trail race due to the lack of snow).

Pre-session registration is not necessary and runners (and non-runners) of all ages and abilities are welcome.

When: Tuesday evenings, Jan. 19 to Feb. 9.
Where: Great Lawn, Lansdowne Park in Ottawa.
Cost: $10 per session (free for kids under 16).
The series will feature the following events:
Jan. 19, 6:30 p.m. – Meet the equipment
Learn about the evolution of snowshoes and what snowshoes to use for which conditions and why. clothing, local places to snowshoe and trail etiquette will also be discussed.
Jan. 26, 6:30 p.m. – Snowshoe 101
World Snowshoe Champion Maxime LeBoeuf will be on site to show you the best techniques for running, and ascending and descending hills on snowshoes.
Feb. 2, 6:30 p.m. – Snowshoeing for cross-training
World adventurer and ultra runner extraordinaire, Ray Zahab, will discuss the benefits of snowshoeing, and how snowshoeing can enhance your performance in summer sports.
Feb. 9, 6:30 p.m. – Fun on snowshoes
To wrap things up, teams will be assembled to play organized snowshoe sports on Lansdowne Park’s Great Lawn.
