The Tough Mudder countdown is on and the event’s quiz says I’m ready to go

With just over two weeks to go, our web editor check in to see if she's ready to run the Tough Mudder.

We’re getting down to it.

When I first talked about taking on a Tough Mudder back in spring, it was merely an idea: maybe I’d do it, or maybe I would look towards a different challenge this summer. Either way, the September date seemed so far off. It would be forever until I’d have to test my running ability in the mud pit. (Full disclosure: I’ve run a mud race once before. That’s me pictured above with mud dripping down my back.)

I took the assignment, agreeing to write once weekly about either my progress or advice for those also signed up for the event. It has been a fun summer project and throughout the season, I’ve had the Tough Mudder on my mind as a circle around my favourite routes in my Toronto neighbourhood and across the city. During some of my runs, I’ve felt discouraged. On others, I feel that it will be breeze. As someone who has always primarily focused on running versus other workouts, there were certainly some positive take-home points from signing up for this: I have a goal, I’m getting out of my comfort zone, it’s a pressure-free environment, I’m mixing things up.

The countdown is on

So now, it’s no longer so far off. In fact, I have just over two weeks to go until until the big day– 16 days.

Awhile ago, I did a did a mental check in which included advice for those who needed that motivational push. Now, I’m doing a more physical check in. I would encourage those who are going to be at a Tough Mudder start line with me to do the same. As someone who runs several times a week and walks basically everywhere I need to go, I have a decent fitness level. But I wanted to review these past weeks and keep myself honest to see what improvements I can make in the time left.

I had to speak honestly… pushups are in fact, exhausting.

Partially because I fully expect that I’ll ask for their help later on!

My editor may have talked me into this one. Whatever, I trust his judgement. And I’m excited.

Tough_Mudder_quiz_7

It looks like I am in fact a seasoned gym rat and trailblazer. I’ll rest well knowing this. I’d say if I keep strong these next two weeks, I’ll be all set!
