Workouts you can do indoors when a chilly day gets the best of you

Too chilly to dare walking outside? You can do these five exercises without leaving your cozy abode

Let’s be real: we’re at the beginning of a long, cold season and unless your self-discipline never wavers, you’re bound to succumb to the winter freeze at least once. For most of us, it’s not realistic to expect to keep the training schedule as on-point as we do during the warmer months. On days when cutting winds have you staying indoors, you don’t have to forgo your workout altogether. Here are a few different exercises that you can do without leaving your cozy abode:

Kneeling halos

By adding this exercise into your week, you’re bettering both your core and your posture. Work a desk job? Moves that focus on proper upper body position will counteract those slouching shoulders of yours. The best part about this exercise: it can easily be done while watching your favourite Netflix show.

The plank

Planks and other actions that engage the core and key for runners. Don’t ignore the core. If your old moves are getting stale, consider how Olympian and World Championship runner Sage Watson gets her strong set of abs. 

Lunges with arm weights

Our finishing kick may come from our strong legs, yes but being a fast runner doesn’t mean we should skip the arm sessions. This below exercise blends leg work with arm work. The perk: it’s so ridiculously easy to follow and a couple reps can easily be completed while waiting for supper to finish cooking or in the moments before a guest arrives for coffee.  

Glute work

Commit to these this winter and you’ll have that perfect peach emoji bum in no time. Natasha Wodak is basically the queen of strength work and even she says this is a toughie. Her suggestion: have a friend help you out until you get used to the motions. 

Med ball smashing

OK, maybe if you live in the top floor of a rented apartment, this one’s a no-go. But if you’ve got space in the basement of your own home, this is the perfect exercise after a long, hard day. Just… warn your family or live-in partner first.
