Kurt Downes on coaching, building community, and achieving longevity in sport

Kurt Downes is the the founder and head coach of Border City Athletics Club in Windsor, Ontario. He was a national team athlete himself in the sprints and jumps. Now he’s a teacher, a Canadian national team coach, and a dedicated community builder. He’s helped a number of athletes like Kelsey Balkwill and Brandon McBride reach the biggest stages in track and field. – In fact he coached Brandon to his Canadian 800m record in 2018 But underpinning his successful coaching is a dedication to creating equitable and safe spaces for all runners.
