The Shakeout Podcast: The “run Forrest, run!” episode

In this week's episode, we chat with a man who's been running across America since last September, dressed as Forrest Gump; plus a conversation with a runner celebrating a 10,000-day run streak

In this week’s episode, Canadian Running’s editor Michael Doyle, web editor Sinead Mulhern and staff writer Tim Huebsch chat with a man who retraced Forrest Gump’s fictional path across America, and a Canadian runner who just celebrated his 10,000th consecutive day of running. And, of course weekly running recommendations.

Segment one: Run Forest run!

This week, we talk to Englishman Rob Pope, who has been running across America since last September, dressed as Forrest Gump. We asked him, well, why? And he tells us about some of the strange and incredible encounters that he’s experienced during this wild journey.

Segment two: 10,000 days of running

Michael, Sinead and Tim also chat with Canadian Running regular contributor Derrick Spafford about his 10,000 (and counting) day run streak. He shares with the hosts how it started, why he keeps streaking, and how he’s got through running on broken bones and while stuck in airports.

Read our story on Spafford’s incredible 27.5 year streak here.

Our weekly recommendations:

Sinead recommends: trying out a relay event, like a Ragnar relay. Follow Sinead and the Canadian Running team at the Ragnar Niagara relay here

Tim recommends: running a big city race, such as the Chicago or Berlin marathons.

Michael recommends: Australian one-size-fits-all sock company Steigen.
