As part of our coverage of the 2017 Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon on Oct. 22, we’re profiling the top Canadian athletes set to compete at the Canadian Marathon Championships.

RELATED: Could Trevor Hofbauer be the next big-deal Canadian marathoner?

Name: Trevor Hofbauer
Age: 25
Hometown: Burnaby, B.C.
Current location: Guelph, Ont.
Associated club/coach: Speed River Track & Field Club/Dave Scott-Thomas
Previous marathons: Debut
Marathon PB: NA

Describe yourself: I run mostly because my main goal of playing in the NBA was not fulfilled. My 2K rating would be around 51 only because my free throw rating is 85.

Most notable running or racing experience: Qualifying for the World Half-Marathon Championships at the 2015 Philadelphia Half-Marathon.

How has your training gone? Average.

Why STWM? I chose STWM because Alan Brookes is a huge supporter of Canadian road running and Canadian athletes. STWM also coincides as the Canadian Marathon Championship so it’s important as a Canadian athlete to support the national championship races. Overall, I’m looking forward to taking in the sights and sounds of Toronto, a city I’m not too familiar with.

Goals for the race? I keep my time goals personal until after the race but I do hope to complete the race and walk away with a positive experience to help fuel further success in the marathon event.
