For the second time in two weeks, James Hall of Melbourne has shattered the youth world record in the U12 1,500m age group. Competing at the 2025 Australian Junior Championships near Perth, Hall won the U13 boys’ 1,500m with a stunning time of 4:11.81.

Hall’s time improved on his best of 4:13.81 set the previous weekend in Melbourne. Hall cleaned up in the U13 division at the Australian junior championships, winning the boys’ 800m by five seconds in a personal best time of 2:05.78. He followed the performance with a commanding win in the boys’ 1,500m, beating the rest of the field by 16 seconds.

James is following in the footsteps of his older sister, Sophie, who set the U12 girls’ world record in February 2023. Sophie, now 14, holds three youth age group records, but James has surpassed her with five youth world records, ranging from the 800m to 3,000m.

In an interview with Australia’s 7 News, James said his goal is to compete for Australia at the 2032 Olympic Games in Brisbane. Hall (born in June 2013) would be 19 come the 2032 opening ceremony.

Although experts caution against heavy training for youth athletes, Hall’s natural talent and love for the sport are evident, with several fans already calling him one of the most talented young athletes they’ve seen in track and field
