If you enjoy following some of Canada’s top runners, look no further than this list of athletes to watch on Strava.
The social network for athletes provides the opportunity to follow the training of some of Canada’s top runners from the track to the roads to the trails. The app, available on mobile and desktop, is designed similarly to Instagram, Facebook and Twitter in that there is a feed of updates in chronological order. Users can keep tabs on their own training while also staying up to date on those they choose to follow. There are also a number of privacy settings in the event that you want to keep certain details for personal records only.
RELATED: Best beards of the running scene.
The list takes into account a runner’s credentials, the character of their routes and run names and their popularity on the Canadian running scene, in no particular order. Click on each name to be redirected to their Strava profile.
Two-time Olympian, Canada’s fastest active marathoner and second fastest Canadian over 42K in history.
World Championship qualifier, known as Canada’s “favourite” marathoner.
Jumped into the @westvanrun 5km this morning. T’was a beautiful morning and the course was pretty rad. Managed to drag my old balls across the line in 14:55 for 2nd place. 14th year in a row hitting a sub 15:00 5km! Thanks for a great event #westvanrun see ya tomorrow! Onwards to @bmovanmarathon @mile2marathon
Second fastest Canadian marathoner in history. 2016 Olympian.
Threw on the split shorts and went for a rip around my favourite loop in Stanley Park with the young bucks of BC Endurance Project this morning • Two laps of the old Palmer 5miler at Tempo effort (52:10). It was a great feeling to be back out there, especially in good company. I’m a couple minutes slower than I used to be on this loop (I once ran 18miles on the loop at nearly 5:00/mile), but it’ll come back, I hope • most importantly, everything felt good and I’m excited about doing some proper training again •
2016 Olympian in the men’s 1,500m.
2016 Canadian half-marathon champion.
“Distance runners are experts at pain, discomfort, and fear. You’re not coming away feeling good. It’s a matter of how much pain you can deal with on those days. It’s not a strategy. It’s just a callusing of the mind and body to deal with discomfort. Any serious runner bounces back. That’s the nature of their game. Taking pain.” -Mark Wetmore, University of Colorado cross country coach @sauconycanada kit is ? One of Canada’s premiere trail runners. He will run the Barkley Marathons beginning the weekend of March 31-April 2.
One of Canada’s top marathoners.
On Sunday I raced with the senior men at the Athletics Ontario Cross Country Championships. Despite the fact that the women’s Canadian Championship distance was increased to 10k this year (equal to the men’s distance) and provincial branches voted on it, Athletics Ontario opted not to update their women’s distance and keep it at 6k, while the men race 10k. To better prepare for the Canadian Championships on November 26th, I chose to race the men’s distance. Athletics Ontario needs to equalize men’s and women’s cross country distances and offer women the same opportunities they offer to men to prepare for racing a national championship! 2016 Olympian in the men’s 5,000m.

So the weather is being flaky (snow) but you still should be training. I was once told "don't get mad at the problem (weather), figure out a way to solve it". Today's solution is the treadmill. Tip: add some body weight hamstring and glute strength after the run because those areas aren't worked as much on a t-mill. #motivationmonday #mizuno20day #ygk #m2m #taper #marathon #marathontraining #instarunners
