Must-see finish line photo propels elderly couple to online stardom
Take note of the hat.
A finish line snapshot at the Oklahoma City Memorial 5K is propelling an elderly couple to local and national stardom.
Betty and Bob Kinder, both in their eighties, completed the 5K in the Oklahoma capital showing that age is no barrier when it comes to road races. With Bob sporting a “sexy old fart” hat, the two crossed the finish line holding hands.
“Betty and Bob Kinder make our track look like a runway,” the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon captioned the Facebook post featuring the photo. More than 3,100 people have liked the photo on Facebook with an additional 1,500 shares.

According to KFOR.com, Betty recently underwent open heart surgery and kept the procedure a secret from her family so they wouldn’t worry about her taking part in the 5K. Betty recovered, and prepared for the 5K on April 30, by walking post-surgery.

Bob planned to do the 5K before Betty’s operation and his wife committed to doing the 5K walk after slight initial hesitancy. “We’re real happy about it,” Bob told KFOR.com in a video interview. In the same interview, Bob tells KFOR.com that the “sexy old fart” hat is custom-made. “Most people just laugh,” he says when asked how people react.
According to these two, there’s a good chance that they’ll walk the 5K again in 2018.
