Summer Olympics to return to North America in 2028

The 2028 Summer Olympics have been awarded to Los Angeles as Paris is expected to get the nod from the IOC for 2024

2028 Summer Olympics

The Los Angeles Times reports that the 2028 Summer Olympics will be held in southern California.

Los Angeles, according to the report, reached an agreement with “Olympic leaders” as Paris is expected to host the Summer Olympics in 2024. Tokyo is the site of the 2020 Olympics. An International Olympic Committee announcement is expected at 8 p.m. EDT on Tuesday.

Paris and Los Angeles originally bid on the 2024 Olympics. The L.A. Times reports that “the IOC decided that, with two strong candidates, it would take the unusual step of giving 2024 to one city and 2028 to the other.”

The 2028 Olympics will be the first Summer Games to be hosted in North America since Atlanta hosted the quadrennial event in 1996. That year, Canadian Donovan Bailey famously won the 100m and anchored Canada to 4x100m gold.
