A must-watch post-race interview
Yes, we know she's a cyclist. But apparently she didn't get the memo about how to spout clichés post-race, and runners should take note
In the 1988 baseball comedy Bull Durham, Kevin Costner’s veteran minor-league catcher coaches rookie pitcher Tim Robbins not only in how to throw better, but in how to deliver the most cliché-riddled platitudes possible during post-game interviews. It might have been the first time Hollywood made fun of this aspect of sports journalism. So it came as a delightfully refreshing change to see Danish cyclist Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig buck tradition by giving what may be the most entertaining post-race interview we’ve ever seen–and for a third-place finish (at the Tour of Flanders yesterday). Athletes in all disciplines should take note.
For years I have said there is no point in interviewing athletes during, or post-competition. Jargon, cliches… very little insight. Until this. How's this emotion for THIRD place at the Tour of Flanders today… dead brilliant. https://t.co/WMXC6K2Loo

Ludwig is a character. She takes a few minutes to get warmed up, so to speak, but then she’s off, describing the tension of the race in more and more dramatic–and hilarious– terms, taking the listener with her on her journey to her third-place finish. Really–just watch it. It will give your day a lift.
