The race to become the world’s fastest DJ is heating up, and last weekend in Germany, the tempo picked up. On Sunday, just hours before hitting the stage, American DJ John Summit (John Schuster) laced up for the SportScheck RUN München 10K in Munich.
For someone who spends most of his time travelling the world and playing nearly a dozen shows a month, his finishing time wasn’t bad at all. The 30-year-old music producer clocked 45 minutes and 32 seconds (4:33/km), placing 452nd overall out of more than 6,000 finishers.
That puts him a few strides ahead of fellow DJ Diplo, who completed the 2023 Los Angeles Marathon in 3:55:11. According to Schuster’s Strava, he’s logging a respectable 20 to 40 kilometres per week—solid numbers for someone training casually between gigs.
On his Strava post, Schuster shared that he signed up for the race as a way to take a mental health break while touring, adding that “running in Europe is a lot more fun and cool.” He admitted he needs to work on his endurance, but praised the scenic course, which wound through Munich’s beautiful English Garden.

Before launching his DJ career in 2017, Schuster ran cross-country at Neuqua Valley High School in Naperville, Ill., where he had a 5K personal best of 17:54. Turns out, there’s still some speed left in those legs.
