Canadian sprinter Andre De Grasse has shown his commitment to family in many ways, including his announcement of the Andre De Grasse Family Foundation and scholarship at the OFSAA Central Regional Championships at York University on Thursday. But we have just learned that De Grasse is a family man in the more traditional way. The CBC announced earlier today that De Grasse is about to become a proud father as he and his girlfriend, Nia Ali, are expecting a baby next month.

De Grasse and Ali met while studying and running track at the University of Southern California. The couple does not know whether the baby is a boy or a girl.

A three-time Olympic medallist over 100m, 200m and in the 4x100m, De Grasse missed both the 2017 IAAF World Championships in London and did not compete for Canada at the 2018 IAAF World Indoor Championships in March of this year due to a hamstring injury. He was also out of contention for the 2018 Commonwealth Games. His comeback this outdoor season has been gradual, as he slowly regains the fitness that once had him on top of the podium.

It will be interesting to see what effect this latest development has on his performance on the track.
