Watch for this world-famous runner on the trails while he visits Canada

Two-time world outdoor champion Bernard Lagat is mapping out routes for a potential Tuesday long run in the Halifax area

Bernard Lagat

One of the greatest distance runners of all-time is in the Maritimes and is scoping out local routes in the Halifax area.

Bernard Lagat, a two-time world outdoor champion and two-time Olympic medallist, tweeted out that he is planning on running 19K from Beechville, N.S. to the Train Station Bike & Bean in Tantallon, N.S. A bear spotting, according to Lagat’s tweet, has him questioning himself slightly. “Not sure now,” he says.

The 42-year-old Kenyan-born American was in Ottawa this past weekend and took in a Canadian Football League game. Meanwhile, the Athletics Canada Track and Field Championships were going on at nearby Terry Fox Facility but it’s unclear whether Lagat made an appearance at the national championships.

If you run into Lagat out on a run, remember that he is a 12:53.60 5,000m and 27:49.35 10,000m runner. He is also one of the fastest 1,500m runners in history with a lifetime best of 3:26.34.
