This is the record that really matters

On Sunday, Canada’s Cam Levins broke a few records with his impressive 2:05:36 run at the 2023 Tokyo Marathon. He lowered his Canadian marathon record by over a minute and a half, broke a 21-year-old North American marathon record (previously held by former world-record holder Khalid Khannouchi) and now has the fastest marathon ever uploaded to Strava.

It’s a pretty incredible feat as, each year, millions of runners upload their marathons to the social media platform, and now a Canadian runner holds the Strava (elapsed time) record.

On Sunday morning in Tokyo, Levins ran to a giant minute-and-a-half personal best on his way to a fifth-place finish at the 2023 Tokyo Marathon. Levins has been on a roll, clocking national records in three of his last four races.

The previous record was held by Japan’s Yusuke Ogura, from the 2021 Lake Biwa Marathon in Shiga, Japan, with a time of 2:06:52.

Levins is known for running upwards of 170 miles a week (270 km), but we promise he won’t spam your Strava feed. The 33-year-old only seems to upload his long runs and workouts to his Strava page, despite stating that he sometimes ran three times a day during his marathon build.

His record-setting activity on Strava is still gliding under the radar, but you should definitely give him some well-deserved kudos.
