Now into the final month of 2017, CR looks back on photos shared to its Instagram, a photo-sharing application, page.

The most-liked photo on Canadian Running‘s account in 2017 was not of a Canadian but rather of Shalane Flanagan as she crossed the finish line of the New York City Marathon in November becoming the first American woman to win the event in 40 years.

Three of the nine were tributes to the late Ed Whitlock, who passed away on March 13, 2017, including a portrait Canadian Running‘s Matt Stetson captured during a visit to his home in Milton, Ont. in October 2016, shortly after the then 85-year-old broke four hours at the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon. Many of his performances, many of which were highlighted by the #RememberingEd tribute by Canada Running Series, still stand as age-group world records.
