Eliud Kipchoge appears to be counting chickens before they hatch
“You can read the signs," he says. “It says I’m going for the world record.”
Kenya’s Eliud Kipchoge appears confident in breaking the men’s marathon world record on Sept. 24 in Berlin.
The 32-year-old was spotted wearing a ‘Berlin WR’ Nike T-shirt with a design similar to that of his NN Running Team during a break in training at the University of Eldoret outside of Nairobi in Kenya. The photo appears on the website of the Daily Nation, a Kenyan newspaper. The 2016 Olympic marathon champion ran 2:00:25 for the marathon distance at Nike’s Breaking2 attempt in Monza, Italy in May, though not a world record.
“You can read the signs,” Kipchoge told the Daily Nation in regards to his shirt. “It says I’m going for the world record.”

Dennis Kimetto holds the current world record among men of 2:02:57, which he set at the 2014 Berlin Marathon. Kipchoge is set to clash with Kenenisa Bekele and Wilson Kipsang, all three of who have legitimate shots at bettering the current 2:02:57 mark, in the German capital.
