KidSport is an organization that raises money to help kids stay in organized sport, who otherwise might not have been able to afford it. Dunfee says, “I have been a KidSport ambassador for the last couple of years and absolutely love the simplicity of what they do, give money to families to pay the registration fees to get kids in sport who couldn’t otherwise afford it. Providing up to $400 per child KidSport BC last year helped over 7,300 kids register for sport.”

Dunfee says that sport had a huge impact upon his life, and he wants to make sure that other children have the same sporting opportunities that he did. “I believe that every child should have the opportunity, like I had, to participate in sport and learn the lessons of hard work, dedication, sportsmanship, teamwork amongst the many other skills you learn. This year marks the 25th anniversary since KidSport was founded by Sport BC, and is now a national organization.”

The Olympian is planning to walk 25 kilometres consistently for the next 25 days. His walk will average two hours and five minutes, to two hours and ten minutes per day, meaning he will travel on average at 5 min per kilometre pace. That’s very fast walking.

Beyond walking, Dunfee plants to speak with 25 Vancouver area schools. “The other part of my fundraiser is 25 school talks throughout the fall. Those will run from October through December. There I will talk to thousands of kids about the lessons I learned from sport such as the importance of healthy living, setting good goals, and taking your passion and using it for good.” In terms of his route, Dunfee plans to wander as much of the Vancouver area as possible, but for simplicity sake, lots of his walk will be around Richmond.

Dunfee is hoping to raise $25,000. To donate, see Dunfeewalks.com and follow him on Instagram and Twitter
