Get to know 2017 OFSAA 200m champion Myles Misner-Daley

Ten questions with Myles Misner-Daley

OFSAA is the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Association, and is one of the biggest high school meets in North America. There are three rounds of qualification before admittance to the big meet on the first weekend of June. Qualifying for, and doing well at OFSAA is a big goal for many high school athletes.

Many of Canada’s best track and road athletes began their careers at OFSAA. This is a series to acknowledge and get to know some of the young Canadian talent that are doing big things in the sport of track and field. We will feature an athlete from each of the six regions of Ontario, and learn about what track, and OFSAA, mean to them.

Myles Misner-Daley is a grade 11 student at Westdale Secondary School in Hamilton, Ont. and last year’s OFSAA 200m winner.

What is your favourite part about track and field? I would have to say it’s the people involved, and how much fun they make it for me.

What are your goals for the year? To make the Jamaican Invitational standards and perform well there, to perform well at Nationals in Ottawa, and then the indoor season again, and possibly the Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires in October.

Favourite song to listen to pre race? Anything by Drake. I listen to him all the time.

What is your ideal post-race meal? My mom’s chicken and rice.

Who is the coolest running celebrity? Andre DeGrasse. I’m also watching Michael Norman, an up-and-coming track athlete at the University of Southern California.

Who is your best running buddy? Ibrahim Ayorinde. We push each other hard.

How did you find the sport of track and field? I played soccer in elementary school, and my dad and the coaches said I was pretty fast, and I should try track. I started to take it more seriously in grade nine.

What is your best track and field memory? Last year at Nationals in Ottawa, it was my first time seeing all the Olympians close up in real life. That was a really cool moment for me, like seeing Andre DeGrasse, Aaron Brown, and Brendan Rodney.

What is your favourite piece of running gear? My spikes. They’re Nikes. A nice solid red. They look pretty cool.

What is your dream track to race at? Hayward Field at the University of Oregon.
