On Sunday July 22nd there was a horrific shooting on the Danforth in Toronto that left two people dead and thirteen people injured. Since the shooting, the victims, the community and the city have received an outpour of support from their fellow Canadians.
On Tuesday evening a three kilometre run began at Danforth and Coxwell, ending at Carrot common, just west of Logan Ave. The run was organised by Sarah Kiriliuk.
Hey, #torontorunners Come run the Danforth with me tonight (Tuesday) at 10 p.m. Let's demonstrate that we are #DanforthStrong. That we won't let violence scare us away from being a strong community. 10p.m. McDonalds at Danforth/Coxwell to Carrot Common. https://t.co/ppQT34LDaq

Brad Bradford participated in the run on Tuesday evening. He said, “The run started at 10 p.m. It was really nice to see so many people come out. Tragedies take place and people feel helpless and aren’t sure what to do. The run brought roughly 150 people together to join in solidarity to take back the street.”

Bradford and his wife have lived just south of the Danforth for a few years. “We did something to respond. I think it’s about healing, and community coming together to support each other.”
On Logan Ave., steps from where the shooting took place, you can find hundreds of supportive messages written in chalk on the sidewalk. Bradford saw the street and said, “It’s very moving. It speaks to the profound impact this event has had. This is about taking time to love and heal each other.”
The Danforth Strong run was one of many events that have taken place in support of the victims, their families and the community.
