For years, Toronto’s Pattie Lovett-Reid has been helping Canadians save money and plan for their future as a financial commentator on CTV, CP24 and BNN Bloomberg. Now, she’s taking on a new plan at Toronto’s Sporting Life 10K, where she will challenge herself and her kids to run the Mother’s Day event (May 14) for Campfire Circle.

Pattie Lovett-Reid is the former host of “The Pattie Lovett-Reid Show” on CTV

Lovett-Reid has never considered herself a runner, but her goal is to prove that the Sporting Life 10K is a race everyone can do. “I’ve always been an active mom,” says Lovett-Reid. “I have seen the event in the past, and I’ve always liked how inclusive it is—everyone can do it at their own pace.”

Although she may not have a racing background, Lovett-Reid has seen many parallels between running and financial planning. “I’ve always shared that small amounts go a long way. It happens in money, and it also happens with running,” she says. “Time compounds on your side; the more time on your feet, the more it will benefit you come race day.”

Lovett-Reid is currently using a 10-week training plan, which has her running three times a week. “I want to break 1:10 and run to get as close to an hour as possible,” she says. She started with one-minute run and one-minute walks and has steadily worked her way up to 10-and-ones (10 minutes of running/one minute of walking).

“You need something to save for, and you need a goal that lights you up,” says Lovett-Reid. “This is an opportunity to prove to others that you can do whatever you put your mind to.”

Lovett-Reid will also be running for the event charity, Campfire Circle, which provides in-hospital, community and overnight camp programs for kids and families affected by childhood cancer.

“There’s something about working toward a goal, putting yourself out there and doing it,” says Lovett-Reid.

The 2023 Sporting Life 10K is on Sunday, May 14, starting north of Yonge and Davisville and finishing at Coronation Park on Toronto’s lakeshore. Registration and fundraising are still open for the Sporting Life 10K here.
