Jean-clad runner clocks 2:34 at Oregon marathon
Known for running in his blue denim, Oregon’s Truett Hanes posted a 2:34:45 at Sunday's Eugene Marathon–marking his second personal best in one week

There are three alarmingly impressive things about Springfield, Ore., runner Truett Hanes‘ recent marathons. First, his time–clocking a 2:34 over 42.2K is no small feat. Second, that performance marked his second marathon personal best in less than a week–and third marathon in April alone. And third? He did it all while rocking a pair of blue denim jeans.

Hanes kicked off last week with a four-second personal best at the Boston Marathon, finishing in 2:38:29. “Boston couldn’t have been better if it tried,” he wrote on Instagram. “The Boston Marathon is one of the best races in the world because of the crowd and the support they give. I recommend going just once, either as a runner or spectator, so you can be a part of the magic.”
The 28-year-old joked on social media that his biggest motivation to run fast was a sign his wife made, which read, “Sub 2:40 or divorce.” Fortunately, he hit the mark–and kept his marriage intact. “Well, I love my wife, so I had to make it happen,” he said.
Six days later, on his home turf at Oregon’s Eugene Marathon, Hanes shaved another four seconds off his personal best, running 2:34:45. In the process, he clocked his fastest-ever 10K and half-marathon splits.

“I had every excuse I needed to take it easy yesterday at Eugene,” he posted on Instagram. He noted that he ran 60 miles (96 km) the week of the race, and had only set a tentative goal of beating his previous Eugene Marathon best of 2:57. “But during the national anthem I decided I might as well see what I have in the tank. I told myself what’s the worst that can happen? I start out fast, blow up after a few miles and have to jog the rest of the way? Still a good day in my book.”
Hanes also raced the Knoxville Marathon in Tennessee in early April, running 2:50:47–and finishing with only one shoe.
The Perfect Jean NYC supplies Hanes with his denim and donates 10 per cent of their sales to charity. “It all clicked for me,” Hanes told Canadian Running. “I can do two things I love at once: push myself physically in an unconventional way and raise money to help others.”

As of February, the Perfect Jean had donated US$15,000 in the previous four months to fund research on finding a cure for multiple sclerosis (MS) and to support the Miracle Foundation, a non-profit organization working to help orphans in India and the U.S.
Hanes has now completed six marathons wearing jeans–four in 2025 alone–and has finished in under three hours each time. He’s also raced a 50K ultramarathon in less than five hours and holds the Guinness World Record for the most pull-ups in 24 hours: 10,001, set this February.
