World Championship medallist and two-time Olympian Kara Goucher‘s social media post from Friday may resonate with a lot of runners. In two short sentences, she succinctly summed up her relationship with running referencing both the struggles and triumphs she has had in the sport.
“Nothing in my life has ever broken my heart the way running has. And yet I cannot breathe without it,” she wrote with the hashtag ‘#runlove.’
In 2016, Goucher narrowly missed qualifying for the Rio Games finishing fourth at the United States Olympic Marathon Trials. The top-three women qualified for the Summer Olympics. The Oiselle-sponsored runner has a lifetime best of 2:24:52 in the marathon and 30:55 personal best in the 10,000m.
Goucher’s social media posts have received plenty of attention since Friday with more than 300 shares and 1,370 likes on Twitter and an additional 9,000 likes on Instagram. The 38-year-old is one of the most-followed runners on social media.
