The previous record of 7.90s was set by Carol LaFayette-Boyd of Saskatchewan in 2009.

Del Grande, who trains with Toronto’s Variety Village and only took up competing in track in 2002 at age 49, had considerable success at the World Masters Athletics Championships in Malaga, Spain in September, setting a new world record in the W65 200m (28.83s) and winning gold medals in multiple events.

Del Grande holds the Canadian records in both the 100m and 200m for her age category.
