Melissa Bishop-Nriagu is having another baby

The Canadian 800m record-holder is expecting her second child this summer

Canadian 800m record-holder Melissa Bishop-Nriagu announced via social media on Tuesday that she and her husband, Osi, are expecting their second child this July.

“A bundle of love is on the way!” Bishop wrote in a caption on Instagram. “Our family is growing by one this July and we are so excited. “Corinne is asking all the questions (not where do babies come from…yet), and if she’ll get a cupcake when the new baby comes.”

Bishop-Nriagu and her husband married in 2017 and welcomed their first baby girl, Corrine, in July 2018. After taking time to return to running, the Eganville, Ont.-native returned to the track for the 2019 summer season. Unfortunately, injury cut her season short, but she came back to win her first 800m race of 2020 and officially begin her campaign for the 2020 summer Olympics.

Her third Olympics didn’t go as well as she’d hoped thanks to a hamstring injury in the days leading up to the race (Bishop finished fourth in her heat and did not advance to the final), and many of her fans expected to see her on the start line at the World Championships this summer in Eugene, Oregon. Of course, given the timing, we’ll have to wait for her redemption race.
