Melissa Bishop-Nriagu announced via social media on Thursday that she and her husband will be parents this summer.
“We [love] this kind of surprise, baby Nriagu is on the way!” the Eganville, Ont. native wrote in a caption on Instagram. “Replacing abs with a baby bump this summer and we can’t wait! We are so looking forward to adding another member to the #BishNriagusquad on our road to Tokyo 2020 #yabish #babynriagu.”

Bishop-Nriagu and her husband Osi married in October 2017 following the Canadian 800m record holder’s track season in which she placed fifth at the IAAF World Championships in London. She won world silver in 2015 and is a two-time Olympian with a Games best result of fourth, which she raced to at the 2016 Rio Olympics. The 2015 Pan Am Games gold medallist holds the national record in the 800m outdoors (1:57.01) and indoors (2:00.19).
The two were photographed holding a print of the ultrasound.
Bishop was one of the notable names missing from Athletics Canada’s team list for the 2018 Commonwealth Games, set for April in the Gold Coast, Australia.
