A wanted suspect in Washington State learned, rather quickly, that the cop he tried to outrun is an endurance athlete.

Moses Lake Police Department, based in the town of the same name in Washington, posted a statement to its Facebook page on Friday recapping the events that led to an arrest. The MLPD officer spotted a man, Jeremiah Hamilton, while on a routine patrol and recognized Hamilton as having felony warrants for his arrest, according to a statement. Hamilton tried to flee on foot only to realize that the officer was a long-distance runner.

“Hamilton clearly underestimated the fitness of the officer, who is one of those people who actually enjoys running really long distances and does it regularly,” reads a line of the statement.

Once caught, Hamilton resisted arrest when a tow truck driver arrived on scene and helped the officer. “With [driver] Juan Pineda’s help, Hamilton was taken into custody in no time,” the MLPD statement, which ends with the hashtag #DontRunFromTheSkinnyCops, reads.

“Hamilton was booked into the Grant County Jail for a felony Department of Corrections warrant as well as three misdemeanor warrants,” the release says. NBC Charlotte originally reported on the incident.
