Ontario man aims to bring Running of the Bulls to Canada

A Thunder Bay, Ont. resident is campaigning to bring one of Spain’s most popular and dangerous traditions to Northern Ontario.

After experiencing the event live this Summer, Rudy Parsons is advocating to bring Spain’s Running of the Bulls to Thunder Bay, a town of 109,000. The annual tradition, which has killed 15 people since its inception in 1910, takes place in Pamplona and involves running ahead of a group of cattle in the open streets.

“The kind of passion that is so evident in Pamplona is sadly lacking in Thunder Bay and I wanted to bring it home for everyone to enjoy,” Rudy Parsons told CBC/Radio-Canada.

Variations of the event are held in villages across Spain, in Southern France, Portugal, and formerly in Mexico.

You can listen to Parsons push for his case in his interview with CBC Radio.
