Paris 2024: how well do you know Canada’s track stars?
We put Torontonians' Canadian Olympic knowledge to the test

With the 2024 Paris Olympics just days away, we were curious to see how well Canadians know their Olympic track and field squad. We headed to a local park in Toronto to ask some trivia questions (track-and-field-focused, of course). Then, we made a TikTok about it. To raise the stakes, we put some money on the line for those who guessed correctly.
Do you know Team Canada better than Toronto does? Check it out:
@canadianrunningmag CANADIAN PARIS 2024 OLYMPIC TRIVIA!! We tested Torontonians knowledge of our upcoming 🇨🇦 track and field athletes, giving $5 to those who guessed correctly.🤑 We had some interesting answers… #olympics #paris #paris2024 #teamcanada #fyp #foryou #canadianrunning #toronto
Who is the Canadian record holder in the 100m?
Most people we asked were stumped with this one. One person said Andre de Grasse (the Canadian record holder for 200m).
Answer: Donovan Bailey (or Bruny Surin); both men ran 9.84 seconds

Can you name an Olympic marathoner?
Although there are three acceptable answers (we also agreed to accept Natasha Wodak, even though she did not make the team for Paris 2024), we got questionable responses. One Spanish couple tried to name a marathoner from Spain instead (but couldn’t). Another person guessed Terry Fox…
Answer: Malindi Elmore, Rory Linkletter and Cam Levins

At Tokyo 2020, Damian Warner became the first Canadian to win Olympic gold in which event?
The first few guesses were basketball, swimming and shooting. One person started guessing all sorts of track events (shotput, javelin and discus) but had a tough time wrapping her head around the fact that yes, all of those events are part of the men’s decathlon.
Answer: Decathlon

The Olympics start this Friday, July 26, with track and field beginning on Aug. 1. If you don’t already know Team Canada better than Toronto does, be sure to tune in.
