Runners connect with Strava, which records their mileage, and participants get one month of Strava premium for free. Last year it took three months to reach the benchmark million miles of human-powered commuting. This year they decided to make the goal just one month.
Though the majority of participants by far are cycling to and from work (98,193 miles or 157,109K), runners have logged 1,454 miles (2,327K).
The site runs a weekly leaderboard for runners and cyclists, and offers prizes. Last week the top runner was Betty Bohane, a runner from London, UK who describes herself as a “running & traveling 2:58 marathoner.” Bohane racked up 24.74 miles (38.6K) last week. Here’s a link to Bohane’s Strava. Overall, Bohane is right behind Pinta Gupta, a runner and cyclist from India, who has accumulated 28.98 miles (46.4K). Here’s a link to Gupta’s Strava.
