Runners were lined up well in advance of opening hours for the Nike’s VaporFly 4% Flyknit release at specialty running stores around the country this morning. The suggested retail price is CAN $330, and the shoe has been seen on eBay for almost double that.

This is probably the closest thing regular humans will get to the custom shoe Eliud Kipchoge wore when he smashed the record for the world’s fastest marathon in Berlin last month. The Flyknit upper is the latest innovation since the 4% was introduced last year. The 4% was also worn by 19 out of 36 World Major Marathon podium finishers in 2017.

Black Toe Running of Toronto was limiting customers to one pair per person. One individual commented, “going to line up EARLY. Perhaps even the night before. Do they allow tents outside your store?”
