Running Room dumps CamelBak products due to weapons ties

The popular chain in Canada and the United States drops Camelbak products due to its ties with Vista Outdoor Inc.

Running Room

Running Room will no longer sell CamelBak products, the nationwide chain announced on Thursday.

The decision comes after public pressure against Vista Outdoor Inc., the companies it owns and its ties to the gun industry in the wake of the Parkland, Fla. high school shooting that left 17 dead. “Although Running Room does not sell or condone the sale of firearms or ammunitions like some large multi-branded retailers, we do sell brands that are owned by a corporation that has holdings in the manufacture of assault-style weapons,” the Running Room statement reads.

Running Room says that it will sell the remaining CamelBak inventory and has stopped “all future orders” from the brand, best known for its hydration products. As of Thursday, Running Room lists Camelbak belts, water bottles and hydration packs for sale on its website.

CamelBak issued a statement on Thursday, in part saying that “a major concern for the boycott centers around the incorrect assumption that the purchase of any of our products may support a cause that does not fit the mission/values of our brand. That is not the case. Our brand falls within the Outdoor Products segment of our company, which operates separately from Vista Outdoor’s Shooting Sports segment.” The company adds that “we recognize, support and respect the right of every individual to decide for themselves what brands they will purchase based on whatever criteria they believe are important.”

Running Room has grown to 110 locations across Canada and the United States.
