University athlete stabbed in broad daylight while out for a morning jog near campus

On Tuesday morning, a 21-year-old male student-athlete at Seattle Pacific University was out for his morning jog on a nearby trail when he was stabbed multiple times in the abdomen by a stranger. 

The victim was less than a mile into his run when the attack occurred. He luckily had his cell phone with him and dialled 911, stating he was jogging on the South Ship Canal trail when he was stabbed. The runner reportedly told the police that he did not recognize the suspect and could not describe his appearance.

Officers arrived on the scene shortly after the call was made from the victim’s phone at 8:48 a.m. He was transported to Harbourview Medical Hospital, where he was treated. According to local news, the victim is currently in critical condition but is expected to recover.

His father told a local news outlet that his son goes for a run at the same time on the same route almost every day. 

At this time, Seattle police said nothing was taken from the victim, which leads them to think it was a random attack. The victim’s father that he believes the attack was planned.

The victim’s name has not been released, but authorities hope more evidence becomes available in the coming days as his condition improves.

The university has not released a statement regarding the stabbing.
