Top 5 Justin Trudeau running moments

While we won't see Mr. Prime Minister running for office anymore, we might still see him running throughout Canada

Justin Trudeau

After a decade in office, Justin Trudeau‘s tenure as Prime Minister wasn’t just defined by politics–he also made an impressive number of headlines for his presence on the running scene. As an avid runner, Trudeau mixed his love for the sport with political endeavours, resulting in a blend of heartwarming and humorous moments. Now, as Canada transitions to new leadership, here’s a look at some of Trudeau’s most iconic running moments.

Running with the president of Mexico

Back in 2016, Trudeau joined up with Mexican president Enrique Peña Nieto for a leisurely jog through Ottawa. The pair was joined by 10 additional runners and bikers, appearing to be members of their security detail. While the outing drew plenty of attention in the media, the focus was not the unlikely duo or their steady pace–it was Trudeau’s short shorts that stole the show on Twitter.

Photobombing prom pictures

The Prime Minister’s short shorts made another appearance in group of high school students’ prom pictures by the Stanley Park Seawall in Vancouver in 2017. He first ran past the group, but was ushered back for a fun group photo after they realized who it was. The spotting even prompted TMZ to post a YouTube video headlined “Justin Trudeau runs in some very short shorts!” Clearly, the world needs to get familiar with runners’ beloved short shorts.

Training with the military

Earlier in 2017, Trudeau squeezed in some morning military training at naval base in Victoria, hopping in with sailors for their monthly 5K timed run. The Prime Minister also toured some of the navy’s upgraded vessels shortly before the ships deployed for a half-year tour in the Pacific.

Running with the premier of Manitoba

The Prime Minister often took to his own social media to share photos of his running pals. In August, Trudeau posted a picture of himself and Manitoba premier Wab Kinew, also an avid runner, with the caption, “Had good company on my morning run today.”
