WATCH: Driver nearly hits runner on Toronto path

How on earth did this driver end up here?

A Toronto man was caught on video driving the wrong way in a totally separated bike/run lane on Bayview Ave. The driver in a maroon 2009 Pontiac G6 was trying to head northbound when he nearly hit a female runner.

The video was posted to Twitter on May 25 by another runner jogging southbound. The driver looked directly at the camera but was seemingly unfazed by the moment.

“This person would have had to bypass multiple signs and physical concrete blocks to drive on this run/bike path,” one Twitter user said.

The person driving the car continued to drive in the space and tried to pass a female runner in his way, despite there being no room for a car.

The Bayview Ave. path, which is separated from car traffic by a mix of concrete barriers and flex posts, is popular for riders and runners as it offers a safe spot to work out. It stretches about 3 km from Rosedale Valley Road to the Distillery District (near Toronto’s lakeshore). The incident occurred at 4:40 p.m. on May 25, just south of the Bayview/River St. intersection, where cars can only go southbound. (Mr. Pontiac G6 tried to do the opposite.)

Since there are no intersections or access points south of River St. for several kilometres, the driver must have been in the lane for a while before getting caught on video.
