WATCH: every world record from 2021 in 5 minutes

Relive the excitement of this year's top performances

2021 was an incredible year in track and field and road racing. After a year of absence due to COVID-19, record after record fell, from Karsten Warholm’s two world records in the 400m hurdles to Letesenbet Gidey’s world half-marathon record to Gidey breaking Sifan Hassan’s 10,000m world record only two days after she set it. Now, you can relive the excitement of every one of these records in under five minutes. Check out the video below from the 2021 World Athletics Awards Ceremony, and if you’re so inclined, you can watch the entire show.

Karsten Warholm and Elaine Thompson-Herah named World Athletics Athletes of the Year

With so many awe-inspiring performances this year, choosing a male and female athlete of the year was no easy task, but in the end, it was Warholm of Norway and Jamaica’s Elaine Thompson-Herah who took home the honours. The next three years are going to be busy, with the World Championships this summer in Eugene, Ore. and the Paris 2024 Olympics less than three years away, and no doubt more records will come crashing down in the months ahead.
