World 800m bronze medallist gets four-year doping ban
Kipyegon Bett initially refused to submit a sample, then tested positive for EPO in the summer. He was handed a four-year suspension last week
Kipyegon Bett, who won bronze in the 800m at the 2017 world championships in London, has tested positive for EPO and been banned from competition until August 2022, the IAAF’s Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) announced on Friday. This takes him out of contention for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and the next two world championships. He has said he cannot afford to appeal the ruling.

Bett initially tested positive in the summer, and his results on the track from February through August have been disqualified.
Bett was also in trouble for refusing to submit to a test back in February, though the AIU said the two infractions should be treated as a single violation.
Kenyans including 1,500m champion Asbel Kiprop and Ruth Jebet (Olympic champion and former world record-holder in the steeplechase) have been the focus of a number of doping violations this year.
