Workers at Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden strapped a GoPro on the back of Savanna, a resident cheetah, with awesome results.

Making rounds on the Internet is GoPro footage filmed by a cheetah, the world’s fastest land animal.

Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden officials strapped a GoPro camera onto Savanna’s back before she was let out to extend her legs. The video, originally posted on May 26, has more than 900,000 views.

According to the zoo, Savanna barely noticed the lightweight camera on her back as she chased around a stuffed toy.

The footage includes real-time video of the cheetah, which can reach upwards of 112 km/h in short bursts, as well as slow-motion footage filmed from the cheetah’s back.

Coincidentally, another cheetah at the Cincinnati Zoo, Sarah, ran a 100m stretch in 5.95 seconds in 2012. That’s the fastest ever time recorded by a land animal.

Cheetahs’ claws act as traction when running and are aided by a slender body and deep chest, all of which allows them to reach peak speeds. The clip is choppy at times which is understandable considering the speed at which Savanna is running.
